Manchester Golf and Country Club
Situated in the quaint town of Mandeville, the Manchester Country Club is not only Jamaica’s oldest golf
course but also the Caribbean’s oldest. Although it only has nine greens, it has 18 teeing grounds, assuring even the best
golfer stays interested. At par 35, the course can be played by beginners and experts alike. In addition to being the oldest,
this Manchester, Jamaica golf course is easily one of the most scenic with beautiful vistas provided by the course’s 2201 foot
elevation.
As you tee-off, look around at the serene environment of the course and you can almost feel the 140 years of history.
The Manchester Golf Club was founded in 1865 among the rolling hills of Manchester, Jamaica and soon after the
invention of golf by the Scottish; a course was built in the grounds.
Referred to as the “English Town” Mandeville, home of the Manchester Country Club displays its British heritage proudly.
Much cooler than the coastal resorts, the town offers a great base from which to explore the South Coast of Jamaica. One
prominent aspect of its British heritage that can be clearly seen is the no nonsense attitude Jamaican’s take with their golf.
With hardly a blade of grass out of place, the 55 acre golf course at the Manchester Golf Course is meticulously maintained.
For the non-golfers in your group, the Manchester Country Club offers squash and tennis, also allowing a glimpse into the club’s
British heritage. Although it is a private members-only club, it is open to the public and is one of Mandeville’s main tourist
attractions.
